Tackling Cancer Treatment Misinformation: Information and Insights
Join the WVU Cancer Institute in welcoming Carma Bylund, Ph.D., to the Institute Tuesday, March 11, for the 2025 Laurence S. and Jean J. DeLynn Lectureship. The DeLynn Lecture will focus on healthcare communication will highlight the WVU Cancer Institute’s Communicating for Health in Appalachia by Translating Science (CHATS) Lab. Event attendees will enjoy hors d’oeurves, followed by the lecture.
The CHATS Lab, under the direction of Dannell Boatman, Ed.D., leverages the power of communication to improve health outcomes in Appalachia and beyond through original research and by fostering the adoption of evidence-based science. Research areas of interest include healthcare communication, multi-level communication interventions, as well as social media and online ecosystems. Boatman is an assistant professor in the WVU Cancer Institute Department of Cancer Prevention and Control.
Special guest lecturer Bylund is a professor and associate chair of education in the University of Florida Health (UF Health) Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics and the assistant director of the cancer training and education program at the UF Health Cancer Center. As a behavioral scientist with international expertise in healthcare communication and medical education, Bylund’s research focuses on developing and implementing communication interventions for clinicians, patients and caregivers. These efforts aim to improve outcomes in critical areas such as cancer clinical trial accrual, HPV vaccination, dementia care and combating cancer treatment misinformation.
Parking is available in the Mountaineer Station garage (area 86) and may be available in Health Sciences lot 93P, nearest the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center entrance of the WVU Cancer Institute. Lot 93P is recommended for those who will be dropped off and for those with handicap parking needs. Please watch for WVU Cancer event signage upon reaching the building and plan to enter where the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences North and South Buildings meet.
