West Virginia University Health Sciences is recognizing 11 individuals and one team with Vice President’s Awards for their significant contributions to the mission of the Health Sciences Center.

 A virtual ceremony to honor the 2020 award winners will be held Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. Additional details will be available closer to the event.

Each year, the Vice President’s Awards honor faculty and staff who have been recognized by their peers for their outstanding accomplishments. Winners were nominated by their peers and selected by their respective Achievement Award committees.

Faculty Awards

Stephen Davis, PhD, School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy, Management, and Leadership

Outstanding Achievement in Service

This award recognizes leadership in professional service and outstanding achievement in advancing the service mission of the faculty’s department, school, or the Health Sciences Center.

Bingyun Li, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics

Outstanding Achievement in Research and Scholarly Activities

This award recognizes contributions that enhance the mission of the faculty’s academic unit and the Health Sciences Center through outstanding achievements in research, scholarship, or creative activities.

Ashley Petrone, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Laboratory Medicine

Outstanding Achievement in Teaching

This award recognizes faculty who have advanced the teaching mission of the Health Sciences Center through leadership in the advancement of teaching initiatives and student service.

Michael Schaller, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry

Mentoring Award

This award recognizes faculty who have made significant contributions to mentoring initiatives within the Health Sciences Center and demonstrate sustained effectiveness in mentoring students or faculty peers.

 

Staff Awards

Fred Whitaker, Campus Service Worker, Facilities Management Award for Physical Plant/Maintenance/Service

This award recognizes commitment to excellence in service within the staff’s department, school, or the Health Sciences Center.

Jennifer Sherrod, Administrative Assoc., School of Public Health, Dept. of Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences Award for Clerical/Secretarial

This award recognizes commitment to excellence in clerical/secretarial work within the staff’s department, school, or the Health Sciences Center.

April Vestal, MPH, Director WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health Award for Administrative/Managerial

This award recognizes commitment to excellence and outstanding achievement in administration within the staff’s department, school, or the Health Sciences Center.

Angela Wilson Research Aide, Office of Lab Animal Resources Award for Paraprofessional/Technician

This award recognizes commitment to excellence and outstanding achievement in paraprofessional/technical work within the staff’s department, school, or the Health Sciences Center.

Lauren Devine, Director of Admissions and Recruitment, School of Public Health, Academic & Student Affairs Award for Professional Non-Teaching

This award recognizes commitment to excellence and outstanding achievement in a Professional capacity that does not involve direct instruction within the staff’s department, school, or the Health Sciences Center.

 

Team Award

WVU Health Sciences Office of Continuing Education Team Achievement Award

This award recognizes a team of faculty or staff or a team of faculty and staff for their collaborative effort in accomplishing a goal that enhances a mission within the Health Sciences Center.
