The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) announced this month that West Virginia University School of Pharmacy Associate Professor Gretchen Kreckel Garofoli was elected to the position of coordinator-elect for the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APhA-APPM) Immunizing Pharmacists Special Interest Group (SIG).
The Immunizing Pharmacists SIG is a network for pharmacists and student pharmacists who share an interest in the area of immunizations. It also provides members with leadership development support, as well as opportunities to engage in the policy, education, and recognition processes important to immunizing pharmacists.
Dr. Garofoli, PharmD, BCACP, CTTS teaches in the School's Clinical Pharmacy Department. She will begin her multi-year commitment immediately. In her role as coordinator-elect, Garofoli will represent the SIG and be accountable to its membership, uphold the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association, promote the SIG’s mission and participate in the implementation of its goals, attend meetings and SIG related events, and serve as a delegate in the APhA House of Delegates among other responsibilities.
Garofoli is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and completed a Community-Based (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency through Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.
Her current practice site is Waterfront Family Pharmacy in Morgantown where she focuses on immunizations, diabetes care, medication synchronization and medication therapy management, along with program development and implementation. She serves as the site coordinator and preceptor for a community-based (PGY 1) pharmacy resident.
Garofoli was the 2011 recipient of the West Virginia Pharmacists Association Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award, the 2015 national recipient of the American Pharmacists Association Distinguished New Practitioner Award, the 2018 recipient of the West Virginia Pharmacists Association Excellence in Innovation Award, 2019 WVU School of Pharmacy Alumni Association Honorary Alumna and was a National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Faculty Scholar. Her research interests include diabetes, immunizations, and pharmacist provided screenings.
Garofoli and the other newly elected APhA-APPM officers will be installed at the 167th APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, DC, March 20-23, 2020.
