American Pharmacy Month is an opportunity to raise awareness of pharmacists' vital role in helping people live healthier lives, and WVU student pharmacists understood the assignment. They kicked off October with a photo in the Pylons and a reception with pepperoni rolls and cake. Students and faculty also participated in a short video for Pharmacy Week (also in October) that was part of a more extensive video featuring Schools of Pharmacy from across the country.
WVU American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) set up an education station during Bridge Day at the New River Gorge Bridge. Student pharmacists answered questions from passersby about diabetes, heart health, mental health, naloxone, immunizations and more. In addition, APhA-ASP encouraged people to get their flu vaccine. They enlisted the help of WVU Mountaineer Mascot Mary Roush, who received her flu shot from Clinical Associate Professor Dr. Gretchen Garofoli in late September. The WVU SoP National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) administered flu vaccines at the Unity House in Morgantown during Bingo Night.
The acts of community service and other activities carried out by our students, faculty and staff during Pharmacy Month are too numerous to mention here. Still, we appreciate everyone who helped to make our month-long celebration at the SoP a success. The video and photos of the activities mentioned above are on our Facebook page.
