Welcoming scholars from across the country, the West Virginia University Health Sciences Faculty Development Program presented the 18th Annual Teaching Scholars Summer Institute earlier this month.
Hosted via Zoom and attended by scholars located in Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, New York, Texas and West Virginia, core education sessions took place June 6-8. The institute also provided step one of a three-step course in simulation certification.
The summer institute is open to faculty teaching in all health sciences disciplines and allied health professionals and focuses on developing educational theories and technologies as well as promoting educational skills, critical thinking and innovative educational approaches.
This year’s facilitators included members of the WVU Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health, David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS), Center for Excellence in Disabilities, Teaching & Learning Commons and WVU Medicine.
The Summer Institute is an abbreviated version of the Teaching Scholars Program offered to WVU faculty that provides development opportunities throughout the academic year. This year’s longitudinal program will be held via Zoom for one hour each Tuesday from Sept. 6, 2022, through May 23, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
To apply, WVU faculty must submit materials electronically by Aug. 19, 2022. Enrollment will be limited to 30 faculty.
