MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University School of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) professional program recently received continued accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). The accreditation is valid until 2025—a full eight years, which is the maximum length of time for ACPE’s accreditation.
ACPE is the national accreditation agency of professional pharmacy degree programs and providers of continuing pharmacy education. The WVU School of Pharmacy’s reaccreditation review took place in November 2016 and included interviews with faculty, students and preceptors.
"The reaccreditation of the professional program in pharmacy is not a surprise to those of us who are familiar with the faculty and students of the School," Clay Marsh, M.D., WVU's vice president and executive dean for health sciences, said. "They always uphold the highest standards of education, patient care and professional excellence. WVU is known around the country as a leader in pharmacy education."
The state’s first school of pharmacy, the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy has been educating leaders in the profession for over 100 years.
“To receive the maximum length of reaccreditation is confirmation of the quality of our Pharm.D. program,” Mary Stamatakis, Pharm.D., interim dean of the WVU School of Pharmacy, said. “Our reaccreditation status is a result of the work and dedication of our faculty and staff. Through their work, we are able to provide our students with the highest quality education and practice experiences that will prepare them to deliver exceptional patient care.”
