Steps to Your Future PharmD

Undergraduate Requirements

The WVU School of Pharmacy has a “2+4” PharmD Program meaning at least two years of prerequisite coursework focused in the sciences is mandatory for entry, followed by four years in the professional program.

Curriculum

Our curriculum emphasizes problem-solving and critical thinking, which are essential skills for contemporary pharmacy practice. Students gain a strong foundation in basic, clinical, social and administrative sciences in an integrated and progressive format. By applying classroom knowledge to real-world patient cases, students learn to manage complex patient care with a focus on safety and efficacy. Application of knowledge is further developed through introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences in diverse healthcare settings. Our training ensures that students are prepared to succeed in any pharmacy practice setting and to become leaders in the profession.

Admission to the PharmD Program

  • Interview invitation upon competitive application evaluation

Your Path to a PharmD

Direct Admit Pathway

The Direct Admit Pathway (DAP) is an early assurance program for high-achieving high school students who wish to pursue a PharmD.

High School

  • Graduating GPA ≥3.5
  • Test into advanced courses with one of the following:
    • ACT Math score ≥ 26
    • SAT Math score ≥ 610
    • ALEKS ≥65
    • Transferrable math credit for collegeCalculus
  • Apply to WVU as a pre-pharmacy major

WVU Undergraduate

  • Enroll in pre-pharmacy coursework suggested plan of study
  • Maintain GPA of ≥ 3.0
  • Participate in the School of Pharmacy First Year Experience Seminar Courses PHAR 191 and PHAR 199
  • Apply through PharmCAS for WVU School of Pharmacy by

Admission to School of Pharmacy

  • October and early November interview
  • Notification of admission within seven days of your interview
  • Complete prerequisites by end of the summer prior to starting PharmD program
  • Maintain GPA of ≥ 3.0

Students who do not meet the requirements for the DAP Program may complete their prerequisites through the Healthcare Pathways with Pharmacy Interest major.
