Application:
The application process for Fall 2025 begins July 11, 2024. All applications for admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program must be submitted electronically via PharmCAS. Please click here to be directed to the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy school directory on PharmCAS for more details about the program and application process.
The School of Pharmacy recommends a minimum 2.8 GPA to apply. WVU's admissions policies include a holistic review of all candidates; therefore, GPA is not the only quantitative or qualitative credential that is considered in choosing acceptable candidates. While we have a minimum GPA requirement, our admissions committee looks for academic promise within a candidate's application. Academic promise is evaluated in multiple ways, including on time progression, academic rigor, demonstrated scientific knowledge necessary for the PharmD program, academic resilience in the ability to overcome previous obstacles, and evaluations (letters of reference) supporting a candidate's ability to succeed in a professional program.
Program Application Deadlines:
- Apply to the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy via PharmCAS beginning July 11, 2024.
- The priority application deadline for submission of PharmCAS application is November 1, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time (HT). Candidates meeting the priority deadline will receive first consideration for interview schedules and scholarships. A decision regarding an applicant's admission will be provided by December 1, 2024.
- The final application deadline for submission of PharmCAS application is June 2, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time (HT).
Prerequisite Course Requirements:
Prerequisite coursework may be completed at a U.S. or foreign accredited institution of higher education.
Evaluations (Letters of Reference):
Three (3) letters are required, one letter from a faculty instructor and two additional letters from: another faculty member, employer, academic advisor, pharmacist or other health care provider. References should be from individuals who have the ability to evaluate the candidate's academic abilities including written and oral communication skills, motivation and/or persistence, integrity, intellectual curiosity, empathy, problem solving and critical thinking skills at the collegiate level. Committee and Composite letters serve as meeting all three required reference provided that at least one faculty instructor or advisor is included in the content of the letter.
NOTE: An unsatisfactory recommendation is sufficient grounds for denial of admission.
Due to the PharmCAS limit of four LORs accepted from each applicant, the applicant may need to send additional LORs directly to WVU in order to meet WVU LOR requirements. Those applicants are required to send them to Jennifer Clutter at the address below by June 2, 2025, deadline.

Personal Interview:
Applicants deemed eligible by the Committee on Admissions will be scheduled for a personal interview. Priority Deadline Interviews are held in October and early November. Other interviews are held from late November through June. Interviewees are judged on the quality of their answers and their overall oral communication skills. Interviews are conducted in person in Morgantown, WV at the School of Pharmacy. In special circumstances, we can accommodate virtual interviews. Interviews typically last about 30 minutes and are followed by a tour and debriefing totaling approximately a two-hour time commitment on campus. It is highly recommended that a virtually interviewed candidate visit the School in person via a scheduled tour with the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs.
Post Interview Information:
Within two weeks after the interview, a candidate will receive an e-mail designating their assignment to one of three possible categories:
- Provisional Admission - The applicant will be admitted into the class provided that any and all outstanding prerequisite coursework is completed satisfactorily by August before fall semester coursework begins. Also, the applicant must remain free of any violations of the Code of Conduct of the School of Pharmacy and West Virginia University or any law that would prevent their licensure as an intern. Applicants offered admission must send a non-refundable tuition deposit to hold their place in the class.
- Deferred - A final decision will not be made on the applicant until all interviews are completed or all spring grades have been received.
- Denied - The candidate is not competitive for admission this cycle.
If a candidate is admitted, they must accept or decline the offer of admission electronically within the time period stated in the e-mail offering admission.
Licensure Information:
West Virginia University academic programs are designed to prepare students for licensure or certification in West Virginia. Completion of a West Virginia University program may not meet educational requirements for licensure or certification in a state other than West Virginia.
If you are planning to pursue professional licensure or certification in a state other than West Virginia, it is strongly recommended that you contact the appropriate licensing entity in that state to seek information and guidance regarding licensure or certification requirements.
